Dear Enthusiast: Please reconsider what you are doing and redirect your attention. I've received enough unsolicited proselytizing to last me a hundred lives, yet still, in 2022, your flock persists. Indeed, it grows! Rare is week that now passes (this being late May of said year) without an acolyte impinging upon my life with some new liturgy. You have exhausted me. I lack the willpower to adjudge your prospectus meaningless, pointless, counterproductive, amoral, exquisitely naive, outright criminal or any combination thereof. I will not go. I will not shill. I will not buy or fund. Your collective is a schadenfreude wellspring, your ethos is an affront to just or otherwise ethical investment and your infrastructure is a gamespace for predatory exploitation. You have enthralled countless poor and/or naive human beings and given the able and unscrupulous yet another means by which to bilk them of their resources. As widening wealth disparity births populist extremisms across the political spectrum and around the globe, your efforts are, at best, unwise. Stop. Blockchains aren't suited to your project and are needlessly wasteful. Cryptocurrencies and exchanges retard social mobility and reduce trust in civil society. Your governance track records are a litany of bungling. Please change how you are spending your time. You can do better.
For an overview of my stance on cryptocurrencies, NFTs, blockchains, DAOs, etc, refer to the Letter in Support of Responsible Fintech Policy. If you’re not of the coincloth and, like me, find these new religions by turns fascinating, alarming and maddening, I recommend the following writers. They aren’t all as cryptoallergic as I’ve become—their perseverance is admirable—but they are all largely skeptical: Molly White (note also her excellent site Web3 is going just great) Bruce Schneier Matt Levine web2boomer Dare Obasanjo Yanis Varoufakis (especially this interview) Bennett Tomlin Concoda Rohan Grey ButtCoin David Gerard Ricardo Valencia Steven Diehl
