Making ships harder to combat probe in EVE Online
There is no "probe resitance" stat in EVE Online, but ships can be made harder to probe down per this mechanic:
- ships become harder to probe as their Sensor Strength increases and as their Signature Radius decreases
No ship can be made un-probable because there is a floor to how difficult-to-scan ships can be made:
- when SenStr / SigRad = 1.08, no further increase of SenStr or decrease of SigRad makes the ship harder to probe
Ways to increase Sensor Strength:
- inject & train the appropriate faction's Sensor Compensation skill
- fit and activate one or more Sensor Booster modules in the mid slot(s)
- load an ECCM script beforehand to increase its effectiveness. remember, it does nothing while it's not cycling
- fit one or more Signal Amplifier modules in the low slot(s). being passive, they don't need scripts or activation
- plug in the appropriate faction's Sensor Strength boosting implant(s)
- note Steve Ronuken's handy listing of all implant sets & their current individual & total prices
- these T3C Core Subsystems boost (improve) SenStr by 15% per skill level:
- Dissolution Sequencer for Legion & Loki and Electronic Efficiency Gate for Proteus & Tengu
Ways to decrease Signature Radius:
- if possible, don't fit Inertial Stabiliziers
- Nanofiber Internal Structure modules (low slot) and Low Friction Nozzle Joints (rig) are less effective but don't increase SigRad
- if possible, don't fit any Shield rigs or these two Astronautics rigs: Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer and Warp Core Optimizer
- if you do fit any of those, train Shield Rigging or Astronautics Rigging to reduce the amount by which they increase SigRad
- T3Cs can remove rigs without destroying them
- if possible, either temporarily offline or reduce the number and size of any fitted Shield Extender modules
- or swap them for variants with lower SigRad penalties
- take an X-Instinct drug AKA combat booster
- fit a Signature Radius Suppressor (battleship mid slot only) for passive 10-15% reduction (70-80% when active, 150 s cooldown)
- plug in Halo implant(s)
- Halos are less effective at becoming harder to probe (and considerably pricier) than the sets which boost Sensor Strength
- avoid being Target Painted or move farther away from the painting ship (or from any Target Illumination burst)
- turn off any microwarpdrive (MWD) which might be cycling. use an Afterburner instead if it's viable since they don't increase SigRad
- reduce MWD SigRad penalty by training Interceptors, Interdictors, or Heavy Assault Cruisers if using an MWD on said ships
- Legion & Loki Wake Limiter Propulsion Subsystems reduce MWD SigRad penalty per level of Amarr/Minmatar Propulsion Systems
- don't fit T3C Subsystems which increase (worsen) SigRad:
